His Name Was George Floyd

His name was George Floyd and he couldn’t avoid
The killing, the culling of black America
Under the hands of empirical white power
Black and blue, blue on black, bruised and broken
Suffering and suffocated, they snuffed him out
One life gone, but these black lives live on

Imported from the heated huts of Africa
Made to be slaves, but never set free
Sweating on farms, sweated out in the streets
Pinned down, pleading, pining for his release
46 years old and still calling out for his momma
Got a badge, got a license to kill, fuck the police

His name was George Floyd, a man, a son, a father
A gentle giant walking on the pale white streets
In a pandemic of racism that plagues people of color
A black man murdered in cold blood, he couldn’t retreat
Say it loud, say it with me now: his name was George Floyd
Another blacked out name we will never forget
